We have never really been interested in making subtle aero.
The original BCL Opulent Canards are probably the best example of that.
They were designed to be big, aggressive and completely different from the small, flat universal canards that were available everywhere and well.. Boring.
Even the name fit. Opulent means rich, extravagant and grand in appearance.
This was pretty much the idea... And on the right car, they really work.
Over the years, BCL Opulent Canards have been beaten on by some serious drift cars, including Formula Drift competition cars driven by Forrest Wang, Ryan Litteral and Formula Drift PROSPEC driver Dustyn Farrell, to name a few — along with a load of grassroots dudes pushing the limits.
They've been hit, flexed with bumpers, dragged along walls and survived years of abuse.
And the comments from the drivers have pretty much always been the same: these things are ridiculously strong!
“So strong they are literally holding the bumpers together.”
— Ryan Litteral
“I've been dragging these on walls all season and they are still going strong.”
— Dustyn Farrell
So why make the Larrikin?
Simple — STYLE and fitment.
The Opulent design is intentionally extreme. The shape pushes out and upward, which looks incredible on the right big, aggressive bumper, but that also means it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
We wanted another option.
The new BCL Larrikin Canards push more inward and upward, allowing the shape to follow a much broader variety of bumper styles and body lines.
You know the ones...
BN Sports. Vertex. URAS. Car Modify Wonder. Origin Labo. Rocket Bunny, etc.
All the JDM favorites.
The Larrikins have a load of presence, but the shape makes them much easier to work into different builds.
Big wheels. Big bumpers. Big wings. Big aero.
We know this is THE FORMULA
They're steezy.
“The new canards are sick, I like them a lot as they flow super well with the bumpers. I cant wait to get the Carbon ones!”
— Forrest Wang
Tested before release
The Larrikin Canards weren't just designed, photographed and thrown online.
Forrest Wang has been running them on his Nissan S15 for roughly two years.
And they have been absolutely beaten on.
The bumper has taken plenty of abuse, the canards have been flexed and hit repeatedly, and just like the Opulents before them, the Larrikins have ended up helping hold the bumpers together.
That was exactly what we wanted to see before releasing them.
We already knew BCL canards looked wild.
Now we’d proved this new shape could take a beating too!
Two different styles. Same BCL attitude.
The Opulent Canards are still part of the BCL range and aren't going anywhere.
They're the more extreme option — pushing outward, making a huge visual statement and working best on cars that can carry that kind of shape.
The new Larrikin Canards give us another direction.
More inward flow. More bumper compatibility. Still aggressive. Still oversized. Still unmistakably BCL.
For years we only offered our canards in fiberglass.
With the arrival of the Larrikin, we now offer carbon fiber as well.
Both designs are universal-fit, allowing you to position them where they work best with your bumper and the overall style of the car.
Because if your car is already running big aero, the canards shouldn't look like an afterthought.
They should finish it.
